150 thousand at final meeting

There were possibly 150,000 at the final night of John Carter’s evangelistic program in Port Moresby. And it was almost certainly the largest non-Adventist audience to ever listen to an Adventist preacher.

No accurate attendance figures were made of the final night of the Carter Report program this month. However, comparisons with photos of other meetings suggests the an audience was 150,000.

Accurate figures were made of another meeting in the same venue that had 100,000 attendance. Leading evangelist Vadim Butov compared the photos of the crowd sitting on the grass in both meetings. He says the people were crammed much closer together in the Carter Report meeting. That’s what made him suggest that this month's audience could have been 150,000.

Until now, we’ve used the figure of 130,000 for the final meeting.

Either way, this meeting was the largest attendance at an English-speaking Adventist evangelistic campaign in history. As far as we can tell, it is the second-largest Adventist evangelistic attendance in any language.

The largest Adventist evangelism audience ever was a Spanish-speaking program in Lima, Peru. There 200,000 attended an evangelistic campaign taken by Pastor Alexander Bullon. There were 180,000 Adventists living in Lima at the time, and probably 160,000 of 200,000 Peru audience were church members. So the Lima program had a non-Adventist audience of about 40,000.

Port Moresby has an Adventist population of about 25,000. If they and their children were all at the final Port Moresby meeting, the non-Adventist audience there would have been about 100,000.

This would make Port Moresby this month the largest non-Adventist audience ever to gather to hear an Adventist preacher.

Facebook has an amazing photo of thousands who couldn’t get into the Port Moresby meetings. Click here to see it: http://www.facebook.com/cartereport. It is amazing! And it's well worth telling your friends about it.
