America’s Supreme Court Plays God by John Carter

Christians across America and around the world are shocked and saddened by the actions of the White House and the Supreme Court in promoting and applauding gay sex.  In rejecting God’s Word and the accepted customs of society, these people have played God, and provoked Him to His face.
We do not believe that homosexuals should be denied their God given rights.  We believe that every person has the right to choose his or her destiny. We also believe that just because it is a right doesn't make it right. The Creator has given us freedom of choice, and will judge us according to the choices we make, good or bad.  There is a higher court than the Supreme Court, and one day we will all face God in judgement.  Basing our beliefs on the  holy Bible, and thousands of years of accepted behavior that has demonstrated what is best for humanity and society, we believe that homosexual acts are morally wrong.
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.  They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who forever is praised. Amen.  Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”  (Romans 1:18, 24-27)
It is our right to believe the Bible and confess our faith.  Threats will not intimidate us.
We also affirm our love for our homosexual brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, and neighbors.  We repudiate any suggestions that they in any way are second class citizens.  We abhor name calling.  We also ask them to forgive us for the ways we may have hurt them in the past.  When I was a pastor of a church in Los Angeles, I let it be known that homosexuals were welcome in my church.  I baptized a gay man who was dying of AIDS.
We must be true to our conscience.  You may persecute us and try to make us participate in so-called same-sex marriage, but we will not surrender our faith.  The President may enact laws that will attempt to force us to surrender our beliefs, but we will not yield.  We are ready to go to prison for Christ who defined marriage as between a man and a woman. (See Matthew 19:3-6)

We cannot accept the novel idea that marriage can exist between two persons of the same sex.  Remember the old dictum, “If it’s true, it’s seldom new; if it’s new, it’s seldom true.”  Calling same-sex relationships, “marriage,” is a new idea, concocted in the fertile minds of politicians who have cast aside the Word of God as irrelevant.  The Supreme Court did not render a judicial decision, but a political one.
We love America and consider ourselves to be patriots.  That is why we now tremble for our beloved nation.  We fear we are walking in the footsteps of Sodom and the old Roman Empire.  God is just and justice cannot sleep forever.  God’s protective hand has been over America, but we now sense that His hand is being removed.  We expect that as our nation repudiates truth, righteousness, and liberty,  disaster will follow disaster.  If only our leaders could understand that America’s greatness has been based upon fidelity to the Judaeo-Christian ethic.  “But now it is hid from their eyes.”  (Luke 19:42)
We believe we are living in the Last Days, so graphically described by Jesus and the prophets.  We believe we have come to the predicted Great Apostasy.  We take heart that the coming of the Lord is at hand.
We will continue to pray for President Obama and those who rule over us.  We applaud the courageous and judicial actions of those noble Supreme Court judges who cast their vote on the side of God, the Bible, and traditional family values.  We are sorry that those four men of integrity who were not swayed by politics are now the objects of slander and hate.  We are also sorry that the two female justices who had previously performed same-sex weddings did not excuse themselves, as ethics would demand, from the proceedings.

We shall remain true to our consciences, while showing love to those who would be glad to see our churches closed.  Our message to them is, “You are wrong, but we love you.”
We are on the winning side.  Presidents, congressmen, senators, judges, preachers, and politicians come and go.  God’s Kingdom endures forever.
